Got an Issue? Share It.

On this Memorial Day, I read a post from Daily Stoic where the subject was, “What Am I Fighting For?”

Where my thoughts went

My thoughts went straight to my parents, who both showed incredible courage during the Second World War—my father as a navigator on a battleship that was in the action that sunk the Bismark in the North Sea; my mother as a teenager, running guns and supplies into the Jewish Ghetto in Warsaw. What a heritage.

So I asked myself what am I fighting for? Apart from my family, I’m fighting for you. For your courage. For your success. For your happiness. For your strength, endurance, and commitment.

What are you fighting for?

I’m guessing you’re fighting for your business every day, taking on every challenge, and figuring things out for yourself.

Sometimes, it takes courage to share an issue you’re dealing with. Your imposter syndrome kicks in, and the head trash starts: “I should be able to fix this. I don’t know what to do…I’m embarrassed to talk about this…All these people know more than I do.”

What SHOULD I do?

What if you reached out to someone you know who is also a business owner and shared your issue? What’s the worst that could happen?

Really…what is the worst? Chances are, it’s not the worst that will actually happen. What will happen is more likely: “I’ve experienced that. I tried this, and it didn’t work. I tried that, and it helped a little. I found a great _____ to help me. I’ve never encountered that, but let’s talk about it…”

Why are those more likely? People actually want to help other people. It’s in our makeup, it’s in our genes. There’s no getting away from it. And just in case you’re still skeptical, if someone asked you for help, what would you say?”

Exactly.
